PachucoXR: Commemorating History Through XR Technology

In June 2024, TecnoLatinx launched PachucoXR to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Zoot Suit Riots—an important chapter in Los Angeles’ history that saw violent attacks by racist mobs against Latino, Black, and Filipino youth. By harnessing the power of XR (mixed reality) technology, PachucoXR brings this pivotal moment in time to life, allowing viewers to engage with the history in an immersive and meaningful way.

This project is more than a tribute—it’s an opportunity to empower young people from under-resourced communities by providing them with the tools to express themselves through cutting-edge technologies. PachucoXR is a result of months of hard work and collaboration by local artists and TecnoLatinx’s students, who were trained to create these transformative experiences. We are grateful to the LA Times for featuring this important work and for sharing the stories of those who contributed to the project, making it a celebration of creativity, culture, and resilience.
